Thoughts on Psalm 139:15-17
These few verses below always make me stop with awe and wonder and marvel at the immense foreknowledge of God our Creator when I read and ponder them. He knew us
before we came to "be," as physical beings at the moment of conception, when yet as we (perhaps in the 21st century vernacular and comprehension) were only the beginning of quantum particles / elements that would eventually be spun into a Human Being, whose
purpose is to bear His Image and Likeness... Comforting thoughts.
I do not claim to be a theologian, nor to figure out in the Mind of God about Predestination or all that sort of thing. But to simply receive these words as they are, and just let it be, brings into view an amazingly big God Who cannot be, in every way, comprehended. And that is a good thing, lest we do a lot of second guessing, trying to outsmart, or get ahead of Him. That St. John says, "God is love" makes it even more amazing.
And it is this God Who reigns over all things, including you and me!
"My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!"
This is a much better rabbit hole to go into, going deep, deep, deep into the past - yet going high and into the future, as we are directed to, "Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth." Colossians 3:2. And what shall we discover (back up to Psalm 139: 7-12) ?
"Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall fall on me, Even the night shall be light about me; Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You."
We may not find direct answers to our problems, as we peceive and define them, but we are drawn to encounter our omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent Creator, Redeemer, and Lord Who has at His disposal the wisest possible outcomes.
Let us rejoice in Him in full surrender... "Thy will, not my will be done."
Soli Deo Gloria. Amen.
